PM distributes food among poor on second day

Prime Minister Khaleda Zia distributed foods among the poor in different parts of the city yesterday on the second day of a three-day programme marking the 25th death anniversary of president Ziaur Rahman.Khaleda, also chairperson of BNP, yesterday began distributing the cooked foods among the poor people, including women and children, from Khilkhet at about 11:45am. Khaleda Zia visited 26 places, including Azampur, Kuril, Baridhara, Mohakhali, Shahinbagh, Karwan Bazar, FDC, Nayatola, Modhubag, Mogbazar Wireless Colony, Siddeshawari Balur Math, Engineers' Institution of Bangladesh, Matshya Bhaban, Banglamotor crossing, Panthapath, Manik Mia Avenue and Farmgate Khamarbari. She also distributed sewing machines and medicines. Of 116 city places designated for feeding to the destitute under the three-day programme, the Prime Minister visited 49 on Tuesday and will visit places today. Local MPs and ward commissioners received the Prime Minister at the venues. At many places, BNP activists and supporters chanted party slogans as well as slogans in memory of late Zia, founder of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). Milad mahfil and Qurankhawni were also held at the spots, seeking divine blessings for the departed soul of late Zia, and peace, progress and prosperity of the country. Party and black flags were hoisted at all the spots. BNP leaders and workers wore black badges commemorating the sad demise of President Zia on March 30 in 1981. Public Works Minister Mirza Abbas, Mayor Sadek Hossain Khoka, PM's political secretary Harris Chowdhury and Dhaka city BNP General Secretary Abdus Salam and Md Mosaddek Ali MP accompanied the Prime Minister.
