Vaughan's stuttering return

England captain Michael Vaughan failed in his first Championship innings of the summer on the opening day of Yorkshire's game against Hampshire.

He was named in the side after scoring 67 against Scotland in the C&G Trophy, his first match after a knee injury.

But Vaughan managed only a single in his 15 minutes at the crease before edging Billy Taylor to the keeper.

Yorkshire have yet to win a game in the Championship this summer following last year's promotion to Division One.

Skipper Craig White chose to bat first after winning the toss, but they were soon in trouble with Vaughan bowled by a no-ball from Taylor three balls before he was dismissed by a fine away-swinger.

Taylor also accounted for Matthew Wood, who was lbw for nine, and keeper Nic Pothas claimed his second catch to remove Anthony McGrath for a duck from the bowling of James Bruce.
