AFC prescribes slow, steady tactics

After a three-day workshop the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) officials emphasised on slow and steady tactics to make the first-ever Professional Football League (PFL) a successful one in the country.

"It would be unwise to expect a miracle in short time. It's impossible to develop a professional league like J-League in Bangladesh overnight. Our main objective is to maintain a slow and steady tactics to develop a strong professional league in Bangladesh," said Brendan Menton at a press conference yesterday.

The AFC Director of National Associations and Clubs Depart-ment Brendan led a three-member delegation to conduct the workshop where the representatives of the participating teams took part in the three-day discussion.

"The launch of the professional football league in Bangladesh in September will probably be the first high profile progress under Vision Bangladesh," he added.

Chairman of the PFL Kazi Salahuddin however hoped that the competition would take a shape within three years.

"It would be like a dream come true when we start the league. I can recall an interview (on television) back in 1977 where I had said the only way to improve football in Bangladesh is to 'bring professionalism'," he mentioned.

The players' transfer for the pro-league will begin in mid July.
