Students to get special rate for internet use
3 paisa per minute

The post and telecommunications ministry yesterday informed a parliamentary body that it has decided to provide some special facilities to the students on internet use at a rate as low as 3 paisa per minute. The students, however, will be entitled to enjoy these facilities only in their respective institutions, Chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on the post and telecommunications ministry GM Fazlul Haque told the reporters quoting the ministry's decision emerging from the meeting held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. "We also discussed the extension of sub-marine cable's facilities to land phone and cell phone companies, including the BTTB, to set up 15 thousand internal and 10 thousand international auto trunk exchanges," the committee chairman said, adding that the ministry have already invited tenders in this regard. The parliamentary body has also asked the ministry to complete setting up of countrywide network as soon as possible to provide the people with the facilities of the submarine cable, which was inaugurated in Cox's Bazar on May 21. It also asked the ministry to install the necessary circuits with other countries soon for using the advantages like data transfer, video conferencing, telemedicine, e-governance and e-commerce.
