Charges pressed against JMB chief, 20 others


Police yesterday pressed charges against 21 militants of Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), including its top two leaders Abdur Rahman and Bangla Bhai, in an August 17 serial blast case filed with Boalia Police Station in Rajshahi.

Sub-inspector (SI) Ahsanul Kabir of Detective Branch (DB) submitted the charge sheet with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court under the Explosive Substances Act yesterday evening.

The case was filed for blasts at six points in the divisional city including Shaheb Bazar zero point, RDA market, Gourhanga Railgate and New Market.

Among the charge-sheeted accused, 12 are under arrest and seven are absconding.

The arrested accused are -- JMB chief Abdur Rahman, JMB Majlish-e-Shura member Siddiqul Islam alias Bangla Bhai, Rajshahi regional commander Abdul Awal, Rajshahi district commander Shafiullah Tarik, ammunition supplier Tarikul Islam, Enamul, Ekhwan, Zahrul Islam Babu alias Imran, Mahin, Delwar Hossain Mithu, Jahangir and Khalid.

Enamul Haque Moni, Jahed alias Zakir, Arif alias Alal, Liakat alias Leko, Amanullah Aman, Abdur Rahim alias Nasim and Korban Ali are absconding.
