The demands were made at the discussion on the historic May Day at Jatiya Press Club on Monday organised jointly by the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and the Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ).

The journalist leaders also said the government should formulate a national policy for the newspapers immediately.

BFUJ president Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, former General Secretary of Jatiya Press Club Shafiqur Rahman, newly-elected BFUJ President Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul, Secretary General Abdul Jalil Bhuiyan, DUJ General Secretary Omar Faruk, former DUJ general secretaries Shah Alamgir and Mollah Jalal and Kartik Chatarji, Abdul Mannan, Md Enamul Haque Babul, Noore Jannat Akthar Shima, Poly Khan, Ataur Rahman, Monjusri Biswas and Altaf Chowdhury, spoke at the discussion. DUJ President Altaf Mahmud presided.
