Aurora's first anniversary of death today

Today is the first death anniversary of Lt. General Jagjit Singh Aurora, commander of Bangladesh-India joint forces during the liberation war.

Gen Aurora, an Indian army legend, presided over the historic surrender by Pakistani troops under Gen. AAK Niazi in Dhaka on December 16, 1971.

In a statement yesterday, Bangladesh Muktijoddha Kalyan Foundation Convenor Maj. Gen. (Retd.) KM Shafiullah Bir Uttam and Member-Secretary Prof Dr Nim Chandra Bhowmik recalled the contribution of Aurora to the liberation war and paid tribute to his memory.
