Cab driver murdered by muggers in Gazipur

A taxicab driver was slaughtered by a gang of muggers on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway near Kumar Khada in Gazipur Sadar on Monday. The victim was identified as Anisur Rahman Nayon, 25, son of Safir Uddin of Pakundia in Kishoreganj. Sources said four muggers in the guise of passengers hired the taxicab from Tongi in the evening. After wandering some areas in Gazipur town they took him to Kumarkhada jungle and tried to slaughter Nayon. But hearing his scream locals rushed to the scene and caught Sumon red-handed. Three other muggers managed to escape. Nayon however died on the spot. The locals handed over Sumon to police. Sumon hails from Kuddapara under Shibpur upazila in Narsingdi district. He admitted that they indented to mug the cab after slaughtering Nayon. Cab owner Monwar Hossain has filed a case with Joydevpur Police Station. The body of Nayon has been kept in the morgue of Gazipur Sadar Hospital. As already reported, another cab driver Nur Mohammad, 26, was murdered by some miscreants at Jogitola area in Gazipur town on Friday. On the same night, the locals caught a group of muggers from the same area when they tried to mug a taxicab by throwing away the driver from the running cab.
