Computer engineer knifed to death

Three local youths beat and knifed a computer engineer to death at Jigatola in the city last night for refusing to evict one of his tenants, a woman, as desired by one of the youths.Witnesses said at about 9:15pm, when the victim, Sekander Ali Sagar, 26, was returning home from his office at Banani, the three attackers including one Shawon took him by force from near his Jigatola house to nearby Salek Garden. There the goons started beating Sekander mercilessly and at one stage stabbed him in the chest. They then sent the critically injured Sekander to his house in a hired CNG-run three-wheeler. Relatives rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead at about 9:45pm. The victim's mother Afia Begum told reporters at the hospital that Shawon came to their house at 15, Haji Afsaruddin Road in Jigatola on Saturday and asked her to evict one of their tenants, a woman who refused to marry Shawon. The woman lived in the house with a child. "As I refused to do as Shawon wanted me to, he threatened to kill my son," Afia said. Police could not arrest anyone until 12:20am today in this connection.
