Asia to host 2011 World Cup cricket
6 matches likely in Bangladesh

Asia have beaten a joint bid from Australia and New Zealand for the right to host the 2011 Cricket World Cup.

The decision to award the event to India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh was made by the International Cricket Council's (ICC) executive committee meeting here on Sunday.

The Asian bid won by 10 votes to three.

As a result of Sunday's vote the ICC have awarded the 2015 World Cup to runners-up Australia and New Zealand, with England staging the 2019 competition. Besides, England will also host the inaugural Twenty20 World Championship in 2009.

Australia and New Zealand co-hosted the 1992 World Cup and had been in line to stage the 2011 event after Asia (1996), England (1999), South Africa (2003) and the West Indies (2007) were each awarded the tournament.

Sunday's decisions need to be ratified by the ICC's annual conference in July.

Meanwhile, according to Bangladesh Cricket Board general secretary Mahbubul Anam, Bangladesh are expected to host six World Cup matches -- three in the first round and three in the second.
