Cultural events to aid an ailing theatre activist

Cultural activists of the organisations Boikuntha Abritti Academy, Swarokalpan Abrittichakra and Prachyanaut arranged a cultural event on April 1 at the National Theatre Stage, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. The objective was to raise funds for the treatment of theatre activist Jaglul Alam, who is suffering from cancer.Renowned cultural activists Asaduzzaman Noor (MP), Hasan Arif, Kazi Arif, Shimul Mustafa, Kamrun Hasan Manju, Ashraful Alam and Ahkamullah participated in the fund raising effort. Rahul Anand was the stage designer of the programme. Group and solo recitation, music were presented by upcoming and noted artistes of the organisations. A sale and display of paintings by students of the Institute of Fine Arts (IFA) was held at the same venue. Some of the students were seen painting on the spot throughout the day. Sabiha Parveen, an IFA student, said, "The enthusiastic students of IFA are participating in this programme to help a promising cultural activist, Jaglul Alam. However, sales of the paintings have not been up to the mark. We hope to continue the exhibition at IFA premises to raise funds for the ailing Jaglul."
