China-Bangla Friendship Exhibition Centre to be set up

China will build an international exhibition centre at the Old Tejgaon Airport area on Rokeya Swarani in the city.

This will be known as China-Bangladesh Friendship Exhibition Centre (CBFEC), chairman of Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) Mir Shahabuddin Mohammad said yesterday.

He said like the Bangladesh-China International Friendship Convention Centre, also build with the Chinese technical and financial support, the exhibition centre will be another show piece of the deep friendship and understanding between the two countries.

"We hope to complete formalities to enter the construction phase as soon as possible," he said.

The idea of the Chinese funding of the project came during the last visit of Prime Minister Khaleda Zia to Beijing. Following Chinese approval of the idea both sides signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) and the EPB later followed up the discussion.

Explaining the project EPB director Monuj Kumar said, a Chinese expert team will visit Bangladesh in next two months to hold talks on the project and determine its minimum requirements. They will provide the technical design, besides assessing funding requirement, he said.
