They also held a protest meeting demanding security of journalists during professional work.

At the rally, speakers criticised police for attack on Khokon and university authorities for not taking any step to stop such attacks and harassment of journalists.

They demanded withdrawal of the police camp from the campus and compensation to injured Khokon.

RU correspondents of different national and local dailies including Mafuzur Rahman of BSS, Kudrat-e-Khuda of the daily Prothom Alo, Rakib Uddin of the daily Inqilab, Jahangir Alam Akash of the daily Sangbad, Mansur Alam of the daily Sonali Sangbad and Abu Kalam of The Daily Star addressed the rally.

Later, RU journalists called on Vice Chancellor Prof Altaf Hossain at his office and submitted a memorandum with three-point demand.

The VC listened to the demands of the journalists and assured them that he would do his level best for Khokon.

Earlier, Khokon was severely beaten allegedly by police when he went to collect information after Thursday's clash involving rival factions of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and police.
