First nor'wester ravages 500 houses in Kurigram

A nor'wester with hailstorm yesterday night damaged various crops in six upazilas of the district while demolishing around 500 houses and uprooting many trees.According to the local Agriculture Extension Department, 65mm of rain was recorded during this season's first nor'wester that continued for about three hours from 9:00pm. The affected areas are Bhitarbandha, Hasnabad and Kaliganj unions under Nageswari upazila, Halokhana, Ghogadha, Jattapur, Kathalbari and Begachha unions under sadar upazila, and Chinay, Rajarhat, Gharialdanga and Umarmajid unions under Rajarhat upazila. Some parts of Bhurungamari and Ulipur upazilas were also slightly affected. Around 477 hectares of boro paddy were damaged in Nageswari and 300 hectares in sadar upazila along with jute, wheat and vegetable.
