RC Travel On scores 100

Anchor and director Shahriar Shakil is the mastermind of an educational travel show titled RC Travel On. Featuring the world's most popular tourist destinations, the TV programme is set to score its century on April 5. On this occasion, the 100th episode of the show was premiered in a city restaurant on March 29.

So far the 100 episodes have featured the attractive landscape, magnificent palaces, incredible scenery and gastronomy of the cities of Malaysia, India, Bhutan, Thailand, Singapore, China, Hong Kong, Mauritius and Vietnam. The show also provides a glimpse of the rich local culture.

Shooting of RC Travel On, said one of the speakers on the occasion, had its own share of difficulties. Often arduous discussions with the authorities are necessary before a TV unit is allowed into a particular region. For instance, there are restrictions on shooting inside an aircraft. It has been a real challenge for Shakil to get permission for such shots. Laser Vision has released the episodes on Thailand, made under the banner of Alpha-i Media Productions Ltd, on DVD.

In his welcoming speech Shahariar Shakil said, "I was really fascinated by travel shows as I have a passion for traveling to exotic places. I want to explore deeper into the genre. We have a small but immensely dedicated team who manage the entire show. Based on viewer feedback, the show's appeal cuts across various ages."

Among others, the Ambassador of Vietnam Ngo Van Hoa, chief controller of Channel i, Mohsin Reza, deputy general manager, Kazi Hasan and others also spoke at the occasion.

The show is aired every Wednesday at 7:50pm on Channel i.
