The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Ltd (HSBC) in Bangladesh held its third charity concert at Wintergarden, Dhaka Sheraton Hotel on March 30. This was HSBC's third charity concert. The concert kicked off with a performance by Habib, the talented young musician who has carved a niche for himself among the youth of the country with his unique style in the fusion/ folk fusion genre. With the help of drums, percussion, dhol, tabla and digitally recorded sound effects, Habib created an apt ambiance for the song Bondhua bihoney. Renditions of Amar ki shukhey jai din rojoni and "Baul-Shamrat" Shah Abdul Karim's unforgettable tune Ami koolhara kolonkini followed. Habib's presentation of his superhit number Din gelo from the album Moinago, enlivened the crowd who up until then seemed quite timid. Habib then invited veteran musician Ferdaus Wahid to take the stage. Clad in his "trademark" glittery black shirt and dark glasses, the veteran musician performed Emon ekta ma dena and Mamoniya. The audience was seen humming along with the father and son duo, rounds of applause followed. Next on stage was the popular band LRB. Ayub Bachchu and his group received a warm welcome from the audience and performed their popular songs like Akhon onek raat and Shei tumi kano ato ochena. Among other songs rendered by LRB were Uraal debo akashey and Ek akash tara. A raffle draw was held in between the performances. The first prize was two return tickets to Kualalampur and the second prize was Dhaka-Hong Kong-Dhaka ticket. Last year, HSBC was able to raise a significant amount of funds, which went to the aid of several charities like School of Hope, Assistance for Blind Children, Society for Intellectually Disabled, Blind Education and Rehabilitation Development Organisation and others. This year too, the funds generated from the concert will go to aid organisations. The event was co-sponsored by Dhaka Sheraton Hotel.
