Five killed in road accidents


At least five people were killed and 18 others injured in separate road accidents in Tangail, Comilla and Chittagong yesterday.

Our correspondent in Tangail reports: Two people were killed and seven others injured in a collision between a microbus and a truck on Dhaka-Tangail highway at around 4:00am.

The dead were identified as Maulana Abdul Jalil, 60, principal of Sirajganj Darul Ulum Khunki Madrasa, and Maulana Ameer Hamza, 47, an assistant teacher of Bogra Fazil Madrasa. Both of them were travelling in the microbus.

According to the police, the collision between Bogra-bound microbus from Dhaka and Bogra-bound iron-laden truck took place at Motora area under Basail upazila, leaving the two dead on the spot. Seven more microbus passengers were seriously injured in the accident.

Four injured people were admitted to Mirzapur Kumudini Hospital and three others to Tangail General Hospital.

Our CU correspondent adds: Two people were killed and eight others were injured, two of them critically, in a collision between a passenger bus and truck on Chittagong-Cox's Bazaar highway early yesterday.

One of the dead was identified as Anisur Rahman, 17, but the other victim could not be identified.

The head-on collision between the Cox's Bazar-bound bus and the sand-laden truck took place near Badur Para area at Chandanaish at around 1:00am, sources said.

The injured were rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

A correspondent from Comilla reports: One person was killed and three others were injured in a road accident on Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Harikhola in Chandina in the morning.

The police said a Chittagong-bound covered van from Dhaka collided head-on with another covered van, killing driver Md Razaul, 28, on the spot.

The injured people were admitted to Comilla Medical College Hospital. Police seized both the vehicles and a case was field with Chandina Police Station.
