27 shanties gutted in Ctg

At least 27 shanties were gutted in a fire at Bakalia in the port city early yesterday.Fire Brigade sources said the fire broke out at a slum in Hafez Nagar Residential Area at around 5:55am and soon engulfed the adjoining shanties, reducing 27 of them to ashes. Four fire fighting units rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze at about 6:30am. The origin of the fire could not be known. The loss of property in the fire was estimated at Tk 6 lakh, the sources said.
