Australian trade deficit surges 135pc in Jan

Australia's monthly trade deficit surged 135 percent in January as exports slumped and imports continued to grow, according to data released Friday. The Australian Bureau of Statistics said the January trade deficit was 2.7 billion dollars (2.0 billion US), up from 1.15 billion in December and more than double the figure expected by financial markets.
