Proteas 289-7

Some lusty hitting in the slog overs by Justin Kemp and Shaun Pollock helped South Africa set a stiff 290-run victory target for Australia in the second one-day international at Newlands, Cape Town yesterday.

Kemp was unbeaten on 51 off 41 balls with one four and four sixes while Pollock made a 36-ball 38 as South Africa reached 289-7 in 50 overs after electing to bat in the day-night match. Herschelle Gibbs scored highest 66 for the hosts, who are leading 1-0 in the series.
