Police seize more items from Shaplabagh house in Sylhet
Staff Correspondent, Sylhet
In another search, police yesterday collected some more items including vouchers, schoolbooks, and a blood stained shirt from the Shaplabag house Surya Dighal Bari, from where outlawed JMB chief Shaekh Abdur Rahman came out to surrender on Thursday morning. Intelligence agencies are collecting information about the Sylhet JMB operatives including the two arrested companions of Shaekh Abdur Rahman and their local accomplices. Sylhet Kotwali police arrested local Union Parishad Member Nurunnabi Deshi yesterday morning from his house at Shaplabag. Hridoy Chowdhury, who rented Surya Dighal Bari, had been in Sylhet for long and apparently he was engaged in stone trading, sources said. He took a trade licence as coal and stone suppliers in the name of 'Chowdhury Enterprise' from the Sylhet City Corporation on February 14. In the licence, he had used the address of Purba Shaplabag under ward no 21 in the city corporation, although the rented house is under Tultikor Union, outside the city corporation area. Besides, he did not mention the house number in the licence. The city corporation issued the licence of Chowdhury Enterprise without mentioning its local address while Hridoy Chowdhury used his home address of Barisal. Abdul Aziz Hanif, who surrendered with Shaekh Rahman, hails from village Bamia under Koira upazila of Khulna. As his name was mentioned in a number of vouchers found in the house, it is thought that Hanif was one of Shaekh's people who dealt with monetary matters. The name of Opu was written on different pages while his travel and other expenditures were stated in details in a book titled 'Opu's account'. It is suspected that he might have served as the cashier for keeping accounts of Shaekh's expenditure during his last days in Sylhet. The name of Ramzanul Islam alias Dipu was found in a number of schoolbooks seized in the house. His father's name was mentioned as Tajul Islam of village Bhatfora under Mirzapore of Tangail. Dipu, a student of class seven in Syed Hatim Ali High School of Sylhet city, got himself admitted into the school on January 28 this year, locals said. In the admission form his father's name was stated as KZ Hridoy Chowdhury, Modina market. The matter has raised questions about his relation with Hridoy or even the Shaekh. They were using fake names and identities for staying at Surya Dighal Bari. Thousands of curious people went to see the police guarded house yesterday.
