Injunction on BFUJ election

A court here yeterday stayed the biennial election of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) scheduled to be held on March 5.After hearing a petition filed by Mohammad Badiul Alam, unit chief of Daily Ajkaler Khabar, the 4th senior assistant judge of Dhaka judgeship Muhammad Mojibur Rahman in a temporary injunction order stayed the holding of BFUJ election. The petitioner submitted a prayer on January 30 alleging that his name was not mentioned in the final councillors' list published by the BFUJ, although he was elected a councillor from the daily Ajkaler Khabar. The court issued a notice (saman) on the President and the Secretary General of BFUJ Gias Kamal Chowdhury and Ruhul Amin Gazi to show cause why the prayer for granting temporary injunction on holding the election would not be granted. However, the respondents did not submit any objection against the petitioner's allegation. After hearing the petitioner, the court today issued the order of temporary injunction.
