CPB calls 8hr hartal for today
Staff Correspondent
The Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) enforces an eight-hour hartal across the country today to protest against power and fuel crises across the country and demand punishment to those responsible for deaths of garment workers in Chittagong and Dhaka. The 6:00am to 2:00pm hartal is also called to condemn 'miserable tenure of the ruling alliance', which, as CPB leaders described, is marked by price spiral of essentials, rise of militancy and unabated corruption. Hospitals, fire brigade, medicine shops, fertiliser-carrying vehicles, emergency power, newspaper vehicles and ambulances will be outside the purview of hartal, a CPB press release said yesterday. The CPB and its student wing the Bangladesh Chhatra Union yesterday brought out separate processions and hold rallies in the capital yesterday in support of today's programmed. The Bangladesh Krishok Samity, Bangladesh Khetmajur Samity, Bangladesh Jubo Union and Garment Workers Trade Union Centre have extended support to the CPB hartal. All examinations under the National University scheduled for today have been postponed and fresh dates will be notified in due course, says a university press release. Dhaka University authorities have also postponed all examinations for today. A release of the Chittagong Stock Exchange yesterday said its transaction for today will begin at 1:00pm and run till 3:00pm.
