Missing mason rescued after 5 days

Eighteen-year-old mason Nikhil was found alive from under the rubble of the Phoenix building in Tejgaon yesterday, five days into its collapse that killed 21 people. Rescuers while removing debris from the building's ground floor at about 11:00pm found Nikhil unconscious. He was admitted to Dhaka Combined Military Hospital. Brigadier General Nizam Ahmed, who is leading the army contingent engaged in rescue operation, claimed that the rescuers have been able to remove 60 percent of rubble until yesterday afternoon. They hope to wrap up the operation by tomorrow. The rescuers were working to clear debris from the second, third and ground floors of the building yesterday. The building that previously housed a garment factory collapsed on Saturday when labourers were working for its conversion into a hospital. ACCUSED STILL EVADING ARREST Police detectives, who are investigating the case filed in connection with the building collapse, continued their drive to arrest seven absconding accused, including owner of the building Deen Mohammad. The police arrested Manager (Finance) of Phoenix Fabrics Rezaul Karim Faruq on Saturday night. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Detective Branch (DB) Shafiqul Islam told The Daily Star that they raided Dhanmondi area and old parts of the city yesterday to arrest the absconding accused, but the raids did not yield any result.
