Power Development Board (PDB) sources said the massive power outage was due to the availability of only 6 MW of power against the daily demand of 50 MW. Supply from the grid was only 10MW on Monday, the sources added.

The city suffered three-hour-long power cuts in every three hours. The city was divided into two parts and as one part received power the other part was without electricity. After sunset the entire city had hour-long power cuts during every other hour.

The power outage hampered operations of banks and offices. It also caused water crisis in several areas of the city.
