5 killed in road accidents

At least five people were killed and 34 others injured in separate road accidents in Sherpur, Jessore and Nilphamari yesterday.UNB from Sherpur adds: A Dhaka bound BRTC bus slipped 20 feet down the roadside ditch at Miakhali on Sribordi-Sherpur road yesterday afternoon leaving three passengers dead and 30 injured. Abdus Samad, 40, and Dulal, 30, of Kakilakura village, Sribordi and Zoru, 10, of Digrirchar, Jamalpur died on the spot. The bus from Patharer Char met with the accident at 5:00pm when the driver in his attempt to give passage to a private car lost control over the steering and slipped into ditch. Eleven of the injured were admitted to Sherpur Sadar Hospital. They are Altaf, Shamu, Barek, Kuddus, Mansoor, Razzak, Zahurul, Afzal and Shibli. They said most passengers of the bus are day labourers of char areas and were going to Dhaka in search of work. Our Correspondent from Jessore reports: One person was killed and three others were injured in a collision between a truck and a Nasiman yesterday. The dead was identified as Badya Nath Adhikari, 45, of Chaulia village under sadar upazila in Jessore. Police and witnesses said Badya Nath and others were going to the Jessore town in a Nasimon, shallow engine-propelled vehicle. The accident occurred at Rajarhat on the Jessore-Khulna highway at about 10:00am when a speeding truck from the opposite direction hit Nasiman killing Badya Nath on the spot and injuring three passengers of Nasimon. Our Correspondent from Nilphamari adds: A rickshaw van driver was killed on the spot and it's passenger seriously injured when a truck hit the three-wheeler at Tengonmari Sasan area on the Kishoreganj-Nilphamari road yesterday. The dead was identified as driver Delwar Hossain, 25, and the injured passenger of the Van Rabiul Islam, 30. Rabiul was rushed to a local hospital in a critical condition. Police seized the truck but its driver managed to escape.
