Int'l jr tennis from tomorrow


The weeklong Dhaka Bank International Junior Tennis Tournament (Group-3) will tomorrow at the National Tennis Complex in Ramna.

A total of 163 players including 89 boys are taking part in the tournament, general secretary of Bangladesh Tennis Federation (BTF) Sanaul Haque told at a news conference on Thursday.

Managing Director of Dhaka Bank Shahed Noman, BTF vice-president Alauddin Chowdhury, BTF treasurer Manjurur Rahman Raskin, tournament director Ahsan Habib also spoke on the occasion.

The participating 24 countries are Armenia, Belarus, Canada, China, Spain, Indonesia, India, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Pakistan, Moldova, Netherlands, Philippines, Singapore, Portugal, Russia, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Turkey, Ukraine, USA, Uzbekistan and the hosts Bangladesh.

The single's champion will earn 60 ITF junior ranking points while the doubles winners will get 50 points.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Fazlur Rahman will inaugurate the tournament as chief guest. Founding chairman of sponsors Dhaka Bank Limited Abdul Hay Sarkar will be present as special guest.
