HC asks govt to pay arrears, 2 bonuses to teachers

The High Court (HC) yesterday asked the government to immediately pay the due salaries and two Eid bonuses to 101 teachers and staff of 41 private colleges. Earlier, the court had ordered the government to pay the due salaries to 308 private college teachers and staff. After hearing writ petitions filed by 101 teachers and staff of 41 colleges, including Kesharhat Degree College, Rajshahi, a division bench of the High Court comprising Justice MA Matin and Justice ATM Fazle Kabir issued a rule upon the government to show cause why stopping payments to the petitioners should not be declared illegal. Secretary to the education ministry, director general of the Directorate of Education and others concerned have been made respondents. Advocate ABM Nurul Islam assisted by Advocate Giyasuddin Ahmed and Advocate Afifa Khatun moved for the petitioners.
