Danger of informing police about bomb
Our Correspondent, Satkhira
Police yesterday submitted charge sheet against a man who informed police about the bomb which was recovered from the house of a Jamat-e-Islami leader at Alipur village in the Sadar upazila. Sub-inspector Aziz of Sadar thana, investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet against Ruhul Quddus, son of Akkas Sardar of the village under Speedy Trial Act for 'giving wrong information to police'. It has been stated in the charge sheet that the 'recovered substance was not a bomb and the wrong information was given to police to create anarchy in the area'. Police recovered a bomb from the house of Jamat leader Maulana Yunus Ali and arrested his son Abdullah Al Mamun on January 8. Prime Minister Khaleda Zia was scheduled visit to Satkhira on January 8 but the programme was postponed due to bad weather. Local Jamaat leaders earlier termed the incident a 'conspiracy against the party'. On January 16, police arrested Ruhul Quddus and sent him to court on January 18 in a theft case. Later, a case was filed with Sadar thana against him under the Speedy Trial Act. The incident created resentment among local people. Talking to this correspondent, some of them said police filed a false case against Quddus to save the Jamat leader.
