'Long march' to start from Moulvibazar Feb 3

The 14-party opposition long march towards Dhaka from Sylhet division will start from Moulvibazar district town on February 3. At least 10,000 opposition activists and supporters will gather in the district town from different areas of greater Sylhet for the march, Awami League leader and district co-ordinator of the 'long march committee' Md. Azizur Rahman told a press conference here yesterday. Other alliance leaders were also present.

Azizur Rahman alleged that the government and the local leaders of the ruling parties are planning to foil the opposition programme by intimidating and harassing opposition activists.

Syed Selim Haque, organisning secretary of Moulvibazar Juba League, was arrested Monday night but released yesterday, he said.

The long march will start from seven different destinations across the country. The routes have been selected by the alliance high command, he said.

All preparations have been completed here for the long march from Sylhet. The marchers will tough Srimangal, Sayestaganj and Madhabpur and reach Brahmanbaria in the evening of February 3. They will have a night halt there after a public meeting.

Next day, the long march will reach Narsingdi, touching Bhairab, Raipur and Sibpur. They will attend a public meeting at Narsingdi.

After a night halt, they will leave Narsingdi and reach Dhaka on February 5.
