Shipping agents vow to continue agitation

Bangladesh Shipping Agents' Association (BSAA) has vowed to continue agitation and refrain from taking berth at the Chittagong Container Terminal (CCT) equipped with newly commissioned rail-mounted gantry cranes.BSAA leaders at a meeting with the feeder operators and representatives of Main Line Operators (MLOs) yesterday said they will not take the gantry crane services. The gantry cranes service will charge every container vessel an additional amount of around Tk 8 lakh to Tk 10 lakh. Besides the cranes will not bring any benefit until the back facilities are developed, they added. The meeting also urged the feeder operators and MLOs not to go for berthing at the CCT. BSAA Chairman Parvez Sajjad Akter chaired the meeting held in the organisation's office. Senior Vice-chairman Ahsanul Haq Chowdhury, Vice-chairman Azim Rahim Chowdhury and EC members Engineer Swapan Gosh also spoke. The BSAA chairman said they expect Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) will re-fix the charge of the cranes.
