Bombs, explosive materials seized from Pir's house

Police recovered two bombs and some bomb making materials from the premises of the house of a Pir in Khoksa upazila of the district and arrested the Pir and his five adherents early yesterday.Being tipped-off, a police team led by the officer-in-charge (OC) of Khoksa Police Station, cordoned off the area at Kamlapur at about 4:30am and found a polythine bag lying outside the house where Pir Siddiqur Rahman alias Idris, 45, and his five adherents were sleeping. They (police) recovered the bag, containing two bombs, 50gram sulphur, 40 pieces of red metal string and six pencil batteries. The law enforcers picked up Pir Siddiqur Rahman and his adherents-- Selim, 35, a schoolteacher, Ziaur Rahman 22, Samad 45, Dulal 32 and Rabiul 39--from a room of the house and took them to Khoksa Police Station for quizzing. Earlier in December last year, an unidentified person sent a letter to the Khoksa upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) and the officer-in-charge, urging them to demolish the house terming it a den of immoral activities. The Pir, Idris, then filed a general diary (GD) with Khoksa Police Station seeking security of the house. When contacted, the officer-in-charge of the police station said they are interrogating the arrestees.
