Transport workers withdraw strike

The transport workers yesterday withdrew their 48-hour strike in the south and southwestern region of the country as the state minister for home affairs assured them of meeting their five-point demand.

The strike was, however, enforced for six hours from 6:00am yesterday even after the Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sramik Federation (BSPSF) sat with State Minister for Home Affairs Lutfozzaman Babar on Sunday midnight and settled the matter.

The leaders of the regional committee of BSPSF called the strike demanding implementation of a five-point demand and in protest against the torture on three transport leaders and workers by the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab).

The demands include withdrawal of cases filed against the transport leaders.

The 48-hour long strike was scheduled for January 2 and 3.
