AL won't quit parliament
Decides 14-party think tank


Opposition strategists last night reached a consensus that Awami League should not quit parliament before the ongoing anti-government movement reaches the final stage.

A meeting of the liaison committee of the 14-party combine held at the Gulshan residence of AL General Secretary Abdul Jalil discussed the prevailing political developments. The meeting was in the opinion that the AL deputies should not quit parliament right now.

Chaired by Workers Party of Bangladesh President Rashed Khan Menon, the meet also discussed the possible shift of date of 'Dhaka March' from January 22 from the first week of February because of Eid-ul-Azha and Biswa Ijtema.

A meeting source told the news agency most of the leaders of the 14-party said instead of resigning, the AL should present the opposition's reform proposals regarding the caretaker government and the election commission in parliament.

The meeting decided that 14-party leaders would meet opposition leader Sheikh Hasina today at 6:30pm at her Sudha Sadan residence and inform her of last night's decisions.

The source said the opposition strategists were in the opinion of holding mass gatherings in the remaining divisional headquarters before the 'Dhaka March'.
