The local election commission office has completed all necessary preparations for holding the election in a free and peaceful manner, official sources said yesterday.

The said adequate number of law enforcement personnel comprising BDR, police, Ansar and VDP will be deployed to this effect.

Five candidates are vying for the post of chairman while 61 candidates are contesting against the nine post of ward commissioners. Besides, 18 female candidates are on the election race for three reserved women ward commissioner posts.

The chairman candidates are Haji Mohammadur Rahman, Haji Mohammad Selim Ullah, AZM Helal Uddin, Faridul Alam and Mohammad Abul Kashem.

A total of 30,178 voters, including 14,453 women, are expected to exercise their franchise.
