A section of govt behind bomb blasts
Mohiuddin tells Laldighi meet

Chittagong City Corporation Mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury said a section of the four-party coalition government is the mastermind of the recent countrywide bomb blasts.

He said this while he was speaking at a public meeting yesterday at the Laldighi Maidan.

He said they will launch a movement against those involved in the ghastly and inhuman act.

"A section of the ruling alliance is behind the rise of militant activities and bomb attacks and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is deliberately patronising the evil force with an ulterior motive to root out main opposition Awami League and other progressive forces from the country," he added.

The AL-led 14 party opposition alliance organised the rally in memory of the victims of recent bomb blasts across the country.

Mohiuddin announced that an all-party committee would be formed in Chittagong with a view to identifying the evil forces, active in bomb attacks in the port city.

"We won't tolerate any more such inhuman act and won't let them (the evil forces) go unchallenged. We would soon start identifying them," he said.

The rally was held amid tight security. Members of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) were put on guard in and around the meeting venue and the entrance and exit points. Thousands of people from all strata participated in the rally.

AL leaders MA Mannan, Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu, MA Salam and Moslemuddin Ahmad, Workers Party leader ATM Nizam Uddin, Gono Forum leader M Kafil Uddin, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) leader SM Akhter Ul Alam and National Awami Party (NAP) leader Advocate Abdul Momen Bhuiyan also spoke at the rally.
