Bijoy Mela cancelled

Bijoy Mela, a traditional programme organised by the district administration in December, has been dropped from the schedule this year due to bomb threats across the country by Islamist militants.Bijoy Mela was held every year since 1972 as part of programmes to celebrate victory over Pakistani occupation forces. The decision to drop this Bijoy Mela was taken at a meeting held recently with Deputy Commissioner Rafiqul Islam in the chair, official sources told this correspondent yesterday. When contacted, the DC said the program has been dropped on security reasons.
