Raqibul Hasan silenced his critics with a blazing century that steered Bangladesh to a comprehensive 62-run victory over Sri Lanka in the Tri-nation Under-19 cricket tournament yesterday.Booed by a handful crowd for a sloth seven off 36 balls in Saturday's victory against England at the Fatullah Stadium, Raqibul smashed 121 from 112 deliveries as the home side amassed 281-7 at BKSP. The total helped Bangladesh U-19s take sweet revenge of their 8-wicket defeat to the islanders in last month's Afro-Asia Cup in India as Sri Lanka managed 219-7 in reply. The victory also maintained their winning streak in the ongoing tournament with three wins in as many games. Bangladesh, who have already beaten England twice, elected to bat after winning the toss but the visitors hit an early inroad by dismissing in-form Tamim Iqbal. The explosive left-hander, who smashed a hurricane hundred against England on Saturday, made a run-a-ball 18 before departing in the seventh over but Raqibul stepped in the shoes of his predecessor properly. The right-hander struck ten fours and one six in an entertaining knock and shared two significant partnerships. He added 63 with opener Mehdi Hasan (35) for the second wicket and 138 with Mehrab Hossain for the fourth wicket before being bowled by Shalika Karunanayake, who captured 3-66. Meharb, second highest scorer with 54 off 80 balls featuring four boundaries, was dismissed soon and the home side slipped to 258-6, losing three wickets in the space of five runs. However, the final three overs produced 23 runs to take the total beyond Sri Lanka's reach. Under pressure, Sri Lanka lost regular wickets and were all but out of the game when they crashed to 78-6 by the 20th over. Skipper Angelo Mathews' undefeated 97 could only give their total some respectability. The Lankan captain, who smashed eight fours and four sixes in his 110-ball stay, shared 83 runs with Dilan Cooray (39), one of the other three batsmen to reach the double figures. Opener Sameera Soyza made 31. Sri Lanka will play England tomorrow in the next match at the Fatullah Stadium.
