Rab asked not to give militant info to media

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) and police have been ordered not to provide any information about militants to journalists and not to let the media take pictures or video interviews of the militants.

An official order dated December 1 said officials giving media interviews and publishing or airing speeches made by militants in police custody is illegal unless the court orders to do so.

Following a home ministry directive the police headquarters sent copies of the order to all offices of Rab, police commissioners of six metropolitan cities, deputy inspector general of police (DIG) of six divisions and superintendents of police of 64 districts.

Copies of the order were also distributed among policemen at police stations across the country yesterday.

The order asked the law enforcers to remain alert so that no militants can give interviews to media. The letter also said 'administrative actions' would be taken against the persons failing to follow the order.
