Vitamin A fortification campaign launched
A campaign for vitamin A fortification of edible oil was launched at the National Press Club in the city recently, says a press release.

Launching the programme, Law Minister Moudud Ahmed has underscored the need for vitamin- and mineral-fortified food products to reduce diseases associated with vitamin and micro-nutrient deficiencies.

The vitamin fortification campaign is being implemented with the technical assistance of Canada-based 'The Micronutrient Initiative'. The Canadian government has provided financial assistance through the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).

Presided over by Jahir Uddin, director of Mostafa Group, manufacturer of Bangladesh's first fortified soybean oil, the launching ceremony was attended by Dr Luc Laviolette, regional director, Asia Region of The Micronutrient Initiative, as special guest.

Prof Dr Mamunur Rashid presented a keynote paper on vitamin A fortification.
