Militant linchpin Hannan shown held in another blast case

Mufti Abdul Hannan, operations commander of banned Harkatul Jihad's (HuJi) Bangladesh chapter, was shown arrested in another bomb blast case and remanded yesterday for the 10th time since his arrest on October 1.Hannan was placed on a 10-day remand in one of the August 17 blast cases filed after an explosion near Dhaka Sheraton Hotel. He was placed on fresh remand on completion of his remand in the case filed for the explosion near Jatrabari footbridge. The Detective Branch (DB) of police accompanied by the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members produced Hannan before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court, Dhaka at 3:00pm. He was wearing a helmet and a bulletproof vest. The forwarding report placed before the court by the investigation officer (IO) of Jatrabari footbridge blast case said Hannan gave important information about the bomb blasts which are being verified. Hannan is needed in custody until the investigation completes, the IO said. The forwarding report placed by the IO of the Sheraton Hotel blast case said Hannan along with his accomplices blasted bombs across the country on August 17 including near the Dhaka Sheraton Hotel. He needs to be quizzed to find out the vital clues to the bomb blasts and the whereabouts of his accomplices, the report said, seeking a 10-day remand. Following the hearing, Metropolitan Magistrate Abdur Rouf Khan granted the remand prayer. Mufti Hannan, who dodged arrest for several years, was shown arrested in four other blast cases filed with the Tejgaon, Ramna, Motijheel and Demra police stations.
