Rajshahi University reverberates to a drama festival

Somokal Natyochokro, a theatre group of Rajshahi University, observed their 24th founding anniversary at the campus on November 27. To celebrate this momentous milestone, a colourful three-day drama festival was organised. Early on, Somokal artistes and workers brought out a colourful rally and paraded through the campus. Chief guest, eminent litterateur, Professor Hassan Azizul Haque, inaugurated the rally. In his speech, Professor Haque asserted that theatre is a protest against dictatorship and we must incorporate theatre in our educational system. Later, the artistes staged the play Shokontola at Kazi Nazrul Islam auditorium. Professor Salim -Al-Din is the playwright while the director was Monwarul Karim Tuhin. On November 27, theatre group Thorthok staged a play, titled Mohonay at the Shahidullah Arts Building premises. In the evening, Gonoshilpi Sanghtha of Rajshahi University presented Gono Sangeet at the Shaheed Memorial archives building premises. Shanon (a poetry recitation organisation) presented a group recitation. Shomokal presented Mohabidda, a street play, while Thorthok presented a street play Ochena Shomoy at the same venue. The concluding day was marked by theatre group Bithira's presentation of Sat Ek Bonam Shunno Panch in front of the Shahidullah Arts Building. Likewise, Anushilon presented a street play, titled Bhabmurthi, at the Shaheed Memorial archives building premises. This was followed by Ruda's play, Oshamapto and Shomokal's Mohabidda at the same venue.
