Lara's one last goal

Brian Lara says he has one remaining goal left in Test cricket before he hangs up his boots -- Sir Don Bradman's world record 12 Test double centuries.

Lara became the leading run-scorer in Tests when he passed Allan Border's mark of 11,174 in an innings of 226 at the Adelaide Oval last weekend.

Interviewed by Test Match Special, Lara said: "It's drawn me closer to retiring as I don't know what else I have to do.

"I would love to get past Bradman. He got 12 double centuries, I have eight."

Lara described beating Border's mark as a "testament to my longevity in the game."

He went on: "I played my first Test match in Lahore in 1990 and it has been a tremendous 121 Test matches.

"I have enjoyed every single innings. I know it has happened at a time when West Indies cricket has been on a decline but it is such an honour to play for West Indies and be a part of history and I've enjoyed it.

"My (record Test scores of) 375 and 400 were done in the West Indies and the people there were able to celebrate.

"But there is something very mystical about walking out to bat at the Adelaide Oval.

"Six innings leading up to that, I had scored no runs but the atmosphere and anticipation of the people was tremendous and I think they sensed something.

"It was a momentous occasion and today I got membership of the South Australia Cricket Associa-tion. I am very happy."

Meanwhile PTI adds from Dubai, Lara's double hundred against Australia not only helped him become Test cricket's leading run-scorer but also lifted him to number two in the latest ICC Test player rankings which had three Indians in the top ten.

Lara's knock of 226 contributed to a five-place rise in the rankings, moving him past among others Australian captain Ricky Ponting (down one place to third) and Matthew Hayden (holding steady at sixth spot).

Now, only South Africa's Jacques Kallis, the ICC's Test player of the year, is ahead of him.

The three Indians in the top ten include Rahul Dravid, placed at five, followed by Virender Sehwag on seventh and Sachin Tendulkar on ninth.

In the team rankings, Australia have now extended their lead at the top of the table, thanks to a 3-0 clean sweep of the three-match series against the West Indies.

Among bowlers, Glenn McGrath still sits on top of the rankings while Shane Warne lies third, the two Australians separated by Sri Lanka's Muttiah Muralitharan in a tightly-packed top three.

Irfan Pathan is the only Indian bowler in the top ten, placed ninth ahead of South African paceman Andre Nel.
