Benapole port fire guts Tk 100cr goods

Imported goods worth about Tk 100crore were gutted in a fire at shed No 10 (A-new) of Benapole land port Wednesday noon.

Local sources said the fire originated from inside the shed while welding work was going on at around 1:45pm. As soon as the fire broke out, the workers engaged in welding fled the shed.

The fire soon engulfed the entire shed, gutting raw materials, cotton, fabrics and chemicals. Fire fighters from Benapole , Jessore, Jhikargachha and Monirampur rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control at around 4:20pm.

Our Satkhira correspondent reported that two separate committees have been formed to investigate the fire incident and estimate the loss amount.

Saiful Haq, director of Benapole Port Authority told journalists that without investigation, it was not possible to estimate the actual loss caused by the fire.
