ITI Bangladesh to hold workshop for younger directors
Cultural Correspondent
Directors of our contemporary theatre are now going for several types of experiments in their productions. To enrich their views, International Theatre Institute Bangladesh Branch (ITIBB) has invited two Japanese traditional Kabuki Theatre experts to Dhaka. Kabuki is one of the traditional forms of Japanese theater, originating in the 1600s and combining stylised acting, costumes, makeup and musical accompaniment. Dr Kyuzo Takei and Professor Toru Itayatwo, experts on Kabuki Theatre will demonstrate in a workshop arranged by ITIBB from November 23 to 28 in Dhaka. Ramendu Majumder, the president of the organisation, said, "For the workshop we will invite 20-25 participants including younger directors and academicians of the country. A nominal fee will be charged for the workshop." "Young directors are blending different types of drama genres in Bangladesh nowadays. If they know the traditional Japanese Kabuki form properly, they will be able to blend the form with others. We believe this workshop will help the aspiring directors to go forward with more experiments. Besides the young directors of the country, we have invited the academicians to the workshop so they can teach their students about the Kabuki form."
