Srabonti
Tête-à-tête with the popular actress
Ershad Kamol
Small screen actress Srabonti has attracted attention for her spontaneous performance and beguiling smile. Currently she has her hands full with three mega-serials, and a few other drama serials. Srabonti takes an optimistic view on the potential of our package programmes. To quote Srabonti, "Drama serials are the backbone of the entertainment offered by the TV channels. Nowadays I remain busy over 20 days a month. A few new channels will be launched within a few days. This will lead to more TV plays and package drama programmes will take the ideal shape of an industry. Many potential actors of the country will be able to take acting as a profession." However, the initial stage of Srabonti's acting career was not smooth. Going back in time, Srabonti recalls that she began as a child artiste. After the SSC examination, in 1997, besides her dancing career, she aspired to play the role of a heroine in TV plays. "To my dismay I found that directors those days were reluctant to give me any break," she says, adding that, "My self-confidence propelled me forward as an actress. The first TV drama in which I performed was Motiur Rahman Gazipuri's play Bhalobasha Tumi. At that stage playwright-director Zinat Hakim, helped me a great deal by giving me a role in her play. Then I got an offer to act in two TV commercials(TVC). The glamorous presentation in the TVC Henolux with model Shimul drew the attention of the viewers. This was a milestone and helped me to acquire a position in the glamour world. "In those days I was a little nervous during dialogue delivery. However, my co-actors such as Shobhon, Selim Mahboob and others helped me a great deal. Also I was confident about my histrionic ability. My performance in the play Kanamachhi, written by Anisul Haque and directed by Mostafa Sarwar Faooki, took me to the limelight. From then onwards I never had to look back. My career took a further leap with my performance in a good number of mega-serials." Srabonti has performed in a movie, titled Wrong Number. She says, "I was curious to perform in a full-fledged movie. It is a unique experience, which cannot be compared with that of the small screen. The shooting experience is also different. When I watched myself on the huge screen during dubbing, I was astonished. I will always remember that moment." Would she like to continue performing on the silver screen? Srabonti responds, "Not at this moment. But, if I am offered interesting scripts I might grab the offer." Srabonti has received the Meril-Prothom Alo Award for her enthusiastic performance.
