Saarc Summit
Security blanket thrown over s-western region
Staff Correspondent, Khulna
A security blanket has been thrown over the entire southwestern region of the country directing the law enforcers and intelligence agencies to remain on high alert ahead of the ensuing Saarc summit in Dhaka. All border districts under Khulna division have been identified as vulnerable. Members of all law enforcement agencies, particularly the police, have been directed not to go on leave for next one month in view of the recent bomb attacks by Islamist militants and extremists of other underground organisations. According to a reliable source, Islamist extremists of JMB, JMJ and Harkatul Jihad have a plan to carry out destructive activities by attacking key installations of the division including Khulna city. Three days ago, JMB threatened to blow up Rupsha Police Station and kill its officer-in-charge (OC) and two sub-inspectors (SI). JMB also threatened to blow up the court at Paikgachha upazila of Khulna district. The source further said special attention has been attached to Benapole border in Jessore and Bhomra border in Satkhira where huge number of plainclothes forces have been deployed to check any suspected man or woman.
