Runa Laila is one of the internationally acclaimed divas and certainly an asset of our country. In her musical career that spans over 30 years, she has bagged more than 100 awards from various countries. She has also recorded approximately 5,000 songs in languages such as Bangla, Urdu, Malay, Japanese, Italian, French and English. Apart from her passion for music, Runa has been working tirelessly for social causes over the last few years. Her efforts to raise funds for schools for differently-abled children is commendable. Excerpts from a recent conversation with Runa: What is your most treasured possession?Music, my profession. Which is your favourite hangout place in Dhaka? My home Memorable moments... My first recording for "Jugnu" a film in Karachi. Equally precious is the day my daughter was born. Likewise, when my grandson was born. What are three things you never leave the home without? Money, keys and mobile What is your favourite food? I prefer dishes like pasta and prawn The most embarrassing moment in your life? After a concert in Dubai I went out without make up and people were really doubtful whether I was Runa or not. What genre of music is your favourite? I prefer "ghazals" and other semi classical songs that carry depth of emotions. Your favourite film... Gone With The Wind Where do you see yourself ten years from now? I hope to be better than what I'm today. I hope to always strive towards perfection.
