Step for safe river journey during Eid

A seven-member committee comprising representatives of BIWTA, Sea Transport Directorate, river transport owners and workers, district administration and police has been formed in Barisal to ensure safety and security of river transports and passengers during the Eid vacation. Saiful Islam, BIWTA official at Barisal port ism its convener. It includes First Class magistrate Md. Mokhlesur Rahman. The committee will start functioning from Tuesday, Saiful Islam said yesterday. "We will try to prevent over-loading in vessels and check their fitness certificates, security and life saving systems", he said. Violators will be punished as per law, he said.
