Highwaymen loot Tk 30 lakh from Kushtia traders


Highwaymen Sunday night looted Tk 30 lakh from 20 businessmen who were going to Poradaho wholesale cloth market in Kushtia from Meherpur in a bus to buy cloth, according to police sources.

About 20 highwaymen stopped the bus at Sahebnagar in Gangni upzaila at about 8:pm by barricading the road. The criminals tied the traders and snatched the money at gunpoint. They left the place firing blank shots.

In another incident, the same night highwaymen allegedly looted cash and valuables worth over Tk 8 lakh from the passengers of 13 buses at gunpoint by turn on the Kaliganj-Kotchadpur road.

According to police, the criminals created obstacles by bamboo and stopped the buses heading towards Darshana from Dhaka.

In another incident, four armed robbers were caught by mob at Bardah village in Sailkupa upazila, Jhenidah where they went to commit robbery there.
